Dental Services
Dental care is a fast growing area of importance in our pets' health care. Proper oral care starts at home with frequent tooth brushing. We provide a finger brush & tooth paste as part of our kitten/puppy package, and for the pets that start later in life with teeth brushing, we carry an assortment of tooth brushes in various sizes. We feel that proper oral care is just as important as their annual exams and vaccines. Sometimes even when we are diligent at home with brushing, our pets can develop dental disease. At the first signs of plaque and tarter buildup or gum disease, we recommend that you start your pet on a yearly dental cleaning plan that includes a complimentary dental recheck every 6 months. As an option when having a dentistry done, we now carry a product called Oravet. This is a barrier sealant which creates an invisible barrier that prevents plaque and tartar forming bacteria from attaching to the teeth. The dental technician applies this to your pets' teeth at the end of a dentistry. Beginning 2 weeks after the initial application, apply OraVet Plaque Prevention Gel once a week at home to maintain the barrier that has been established. It takes less than 60 seconds to do. The science behind this, is fewer dentistries. Our dental station is fully equiped with ultrasonic cleaner, dental scaler/polisher air unit, and a dental x-ray machine. Early dental care can help prevent health problems, such as heart or kidney disease later in your pets' life. Dentals are preformed on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only. All patients need to be checked into the hospital between 8:00 am & 8:30 am. No food or water after 10:00 pm the night before surgery. Most patients are released the same day.
