Feline

Dr. Mary believes that an annual exam is as, if not more, important than vaccination of your pet.  Vaccines are a great preventitive for certain virus' and it is important to keep them up to date.  However, we often find other things going on with your pet's health during a routine examination.  The age of your pet and the lifestyle you lead will help to determine what your pet will require.  Below you will find what we recommend as far as exams, vaccinations, deworming, etc...
Kitten Vaccination Recommendations
The first year of your kitten's life is the most important.  Preventive health care, such as regular veterinary examinations and vaccinations, can help add to the quality and length of your kittens' life.  The correct vaccination schedule will help protect your kitten from potentially life threatening diseases such as Distemper, Leukemia, and the FIV virus.
We recommend the following vaccination schedule:
8 Weeks of age

Calici          Rhinotracheitis          Panleukopenia (distemper)

9 Weeks of age
Leukemia          FIV (outdoor cats only)
12 weeks of age

Calici          Rhinotracheitis          Panleukopenia (distemper)

13 weeks of age

Leukemia          FIV (outdoor cats only)         Rabies

17 weeks of age
FIV (outdoor cats only
It is important to remember that your kitten is not totally protected for these diseases until 2 - 3 weeks after the last vaccination.  Kittens should be kept away from any areas that may be frequented by other cats, such as boarding facilities and groomers until they are 15 - 16 weeks of age for indoor cats or 18 - 19 weeks of age for outdoor cats.

Routine fecal examinations are important for your kitten's overall health.  Please ask our staff if you have any questions.  The CDC recommends the following deworming schedule for your kitten.
Every 2 weeks until 3 months of age
Once a month from 3 - 6 months of age
Four times a year after 6 months of age
