A new rotary disc power float tool has been added to complement Sutherlin Veterinary Hospital's dental equipment. It has proven to be very effective in safely correcting a wide variety of dental problems as well as routine dental work.

Some telltale signs of dental problems:

  1. Grain falling from mouth.
  2. Quidding – partially chewed hay falls from mouth.
  3. Chewing with mouth open.
  4. Tilting head to one side while chewing
  5. Eating unusually slowly
  6. Chewing carefully.
  7. Bitting problems and resistance to bit
  8. Manure is course with undigested hay stems and undigested grain.
  9. Weight loss.

It is recommended that horses begin having routine dental exams performed at two years of age. Having your veterinarian evaluate your horses teeth every 6 to 12 months will assure that your horse is adequately able to chew and digest feed. In the long run this will hopefully keep your horse from needing extensive, and costly dental work.

You can either trailer your horse into our facility,  or Dr. will come to your barn for dental work.  Our large animal facility is equipped with stocks in which to support your horse while sedated, and a stall for recovery.
